Not Just Bling

You think I said that just so you'd read this, don't you? Not so. I have been getting all sticky and covering shuttles (and I found a whole jar of glitter ModPodge), but I've been tatting, too. Actually, what I've been doing is test tatting for other people, so I don't have pictures to show of all those pieces (ha-ha -- gotcha). But here's the latest batch of fractal covered Aeros:
I did a bunch of Clover shuttles like these, but didn't get a picture taken before I packed 'em up for Shuttlebirds in April. Now...I won't be there, but the shuttles will. A very generous soul from Bonneville Tatters is taking them to see if anyone might want to buy one. Personally, I'm hoping she gets rid of the whole lot. Then I can buy a bunch more shuttles to cover. Like I said before -- it's soothing and such a great reason to stay up until 2:00 in the morning.

Just so nobody gets disgusted with my no-tatting tatting blog -- here's a bit of something I started. I'm going to start over and change the stitch counts on the second set of split rings because to get it to stay flat I had to really stress the clover joins. Doesn't look good enough to bother completing the rest of the piece onto this center, but it's still a nice little coaster. This is a doily by Jan Stawasz, but with alterations. Having absolutely NO patience with dozens of little separate motifs to make up the doily, I fussed and figured and counted (and need to recount) so I could make this thing in rounds instead of pieces. Oh, all the decorative picots have disappeared, too. I like the frilly look of picots, but have the worst time blocking the fussy little things, so I'm trying this without.

Your doily is sure pretty, though! Love the colors - what thread are you using?

I never tire of looking at your beautifully decorated shuttles! Blinging is very relaxing, and I find that it's a great way to rest my wrist when I've been tatting too long. ; )

I have Jan's book, but I haven't tried anything from it yet. I just haven't taken time to sit down and figure out his directions. Maybe when I finish with my next batch of shuttles...

Sharren, the thread is Lizbeth size 40. The center is white and the outside is Cotton Candy.
Diane, I'm with you on the relaxing. As for Jan's book, there are some beautiful pieces in it -- I just don't have the patience for the "ankle connected to the shin bone" kind of build up to complete something. Way to many threads to hide doing it that way.

Marty, oh my, after admiring Diane's blinged shuttles, I come by to drool over your pretty shuttles! Am looking forward to blinging my shuttles but will have to find time and materials. Too much on my hands right now... :p

This batch of shuttles is especially beautiful! What kind of paper are you using? You shouldn't have much trouble selling them :)

I like to decorate shuttles too - none of mine have turned out this pretty. I am beginning to think I like using napkins best.

Nice going on Jan's pattern :)

These shuttles are covered with pictures of fractals I found on the 'net. I took the best pieces from the pictures (well, what I though was best) and sized them to fit the shuttles. I printed them on a color laser printer on regular paper. It's thicker to work with than tissue paper or napkins, but they come out pretty nice.

Oh Marty, I agree, BOTH the shuttles and the tatting is very pretty!!!!

I've still to get brave enough to bling any shuttles. Though I do have some awesome papers and blings now :)
