Mini Beatrice

"Beatrice" is from Iris Niebach's Tatted Doilies. (See? My favorite book!) This tiny little bit is made from YLI machine quilting thread in a very subtle variegated blue/green/purple called "Alaskan Twilight". It measures just 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) across.

It might make a tablecloth for a dollhouse. Originally, I intended to leave out a couple of repeats and put it on a Christmas Ornament (as I am soooooo way behind in my challenge pieces!). It went traveling with me, though -- and the ornament did not. When I got home I discovered that I'd already done too many repeats for the little glass ornament I had intended to use.

*Sigh*

I've started another ornament cover, but it can't travel as I'm using beads on the picots. I don't like hauling beads around with me because I tend to drop them all over everywhere. That wouldn't be so bad, but then I feel compelled to pick them up. That just looks strange -- some old bat crawling around on the floor in airports, restaurants, county recorder's offices, . . .

Beautiful, and it's in my favorite color! I've just started a piece in size 30... I think that's about as small as I'll go for now!

That is a gorgeous thread!

I agree about travelling with beads, too. If they can all be pre-loaded on the thread, and I have time to wind the shuttle before I leave home so that the beads don't come off, then it's OK. But if any beads have to be added during the tatting, then it must be done at home.

Beautiful work! So intricate, I love it!
Beads can be tricky while traveling I agree, especially if you have to place them on picot while tatting...too challenging for me on the road :))

Another sweet doily, perfectly tatted - and only 3.75" across? I can only guess that the quilting thread is equivalent to size 80or higher! Even though some of my early tatting pieces are done with size 50, I basically stick to 30 or 20 these days!

I still haven't mastered tatting with beads at home, let alone in public! I'm still finding some in the rug around my chair - or in the seat cushions!

Wow, an Iris doily in quilting thread, I have never thought of doing that...but it sounds like an interesting idea and I might just have a go!
Yours looks really pretty.

So pretty and delicate! Wow, your eyesight must be first rate! Tatting with that fine a cotton would blind me for sure!

Hi Marty, I love the colors in this doily. I have never worked with quilting threads for tatting. About what size thread would this be and do you think it would be a good thread to use for tatting around necklines or makeing other designs to put on my knit dress tops?

I can't believe you tatted that doiley in such thin thread, it's beautiful.
