These are the snowflakes I've been making from Jon Yusoff's book Elegant Tatting Gems. I'm making them all in red and green DMC size 80 tatting thread. I'm also doing them in order. I've got seven and a half done. This is just the first seven, not the half.
Oh, one of them is NOT in DMC size 80 red and green threads. One of them is a Lizbeth size 20 pink and blue variegate. I suppose which one is rather obvious.
These are really great little snowflakes. They're all pretty and they are all done with basic techniques -- but when they're done they look so complex. Amazing, right?

Indeed Jon's designs ARE amazing! And tatted beautifully here, in size 80 no less! (Except, of course for the larger - and also beautiful - Baiduri, done in 20).
I can't imagine doing an entire snowflake in size 80! It seems so much more labor intensive. You have obviously mastered using it.
I also like the way you posted the photos here. I have to ask exactly how you did that - all scanned at once? Then how did you add the text?
Yes, they were all scanned at once. From my scanner to PaintShop Pro. That's where I added all the words and saved the result.
Thanks so much for the information! I've been confused as to which software to try, but PaintShop seems to be the one that's mentioned most often. I am determined to improve my blog and to try the techniques I see others using!
that's an awesome display of snowflakes! i love them in the colours you chose, very christmasy. who ever says snowflakes ought to be white?!
Wow, Lovely Marty!
I don't think I had seen these snowflakes done in two colours yet, they look great indeed!
Congrats on using size 80. They must be extremely dainty in real life.
Marty ~ what great work you do. I can't imagine doing them all in 80. 20 is hard enough for me. I love the colors as well. Keep up th egret work can't wait to see more that you do
I love you snowflakes, they are wonderful. Are you sure the size 20 isn't actually Adan? I've been working through the book as well. But mine don't look nearly as nice as yours :o)
Jess, you're absolutely right! The size 20 is Adan. I've fixed the picture. Some days I don't know up from down!
Thank you for a lovely interpretation of the gems.
When I was designing them, I used two colours for my models, but they did not match up to yours here.
Ooo, they are all sooo pretty! I was just gifted Jon's book but haven't tried any yet. I will definitely have to try some in two colors, yours came out looking amazing. The red and green make them look fantastic! I'll be making mine in size 20 or 40 though I'm sure:)
