Ribbons from the Fair - part 6

"Delia" from Tatted Doilies by Iris Niebach. I finished this one back in May and thought it would be perfect for the Fair. I did a little more blocking on it, but I don't think it was enough. The judges didn't love it as much as I did -- they loved it second-place worth, though. That's good, but means I don't think it's going to be making the trip to the State Fair this year.
It doesn't mean I'm going to stop making Iris Niebach patterns -- they're still my favorites (in fact -- my copy of Tatting Fantasia 3 came the other day!)

I don't know what those judges were thinking... with your tatting and Iris's pattern, this is definitely a first place with me!

Well if that came in second, then I would love to see what took first! That is lovely, and clearly took a lot of work.

I love your color choice, too. If I made this, I would be tempted to use a variegated thread; but looking at yours, I can see that a solid works much better.

Beautiful work!

Judging of anything is so subjective. I always tried to remember, when I was exhibiting dogs, that the judge thought that other dog was the best on THAT day…at the next show; he chose mien! But I loved each and every pup I took to the show.

And, your entry is loved by you; and many of us have admired your work, too. I have her book, but honestly, I'm so intimidated by her patterns, I've not tried. That does not mean I won't ~ just not ready yet.

I wonder how many of those who judge at these shows are knowledgable about tatting? And, is that important as long as they are knowledgable about the 'sister' fiber arts? I'd rather have someone look at my work who actually tatted. Just thinking out loud.

I think the doily is excellent and it gets my blue…for sure. My opinion is as good as anyone else ~ after all I do tat. LOL

Competition in your fair must be pretty stiff because it's a beautiful doily. Congratulations on your ribbon.
